Operation of the Railway Companies and Power Saving Measures in Summer 2011

 As the environmental measures of the transportation sector, "promoting the use of public transport" for less environmental impact has been promoted by Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

 The rolling blackouts occurred immediately after the East Earthquake, and an excessive power-saving measure over the railway company caused to reveal the loss of significant social role. Therefore, Tokyo Metropolitan Government has asked for electricity deregulation, and exchange opinions about the power-saving measures with railway companies.

 Power-saving measures in this summer are based on the Electricity Utilities Industry Law. At peak time "duty of 15% reduced power consumption" is imposed on large consumers (over 500kW power saving). However, there are some exceptions for hospitals and railway companies.

 As a power-saving measures in each railway company, thinning operation is performed with schedule changes and taking all steps to avoid degradation of service with an idea of "a great deal of power saving measures".
