TMG hosted "Tokyo Workshop 2009 on Urban Cap-and-Trade"

September 16th, 2009

On Thursday September 3rd, 2009, the Bureau of Environment, Tokyo Metropolitan Government successfully hosted its Tokyo Workshop 2009 on Urban Cap & Trade - Towards a Low Carbon Metropolis - at the Tokyo Women's Plaza Hall (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan).

Looking towards 2020, the substantial greenhouse gas emissions required to be achieved from the developed nations highlights the indispensability of emission reduction measures extended to the business and the commercial sectors, including office buildings, along with the measures taken against the power and energy plants and large-scale factories. In order to bring together and strengthen the cooperation among the sub-national governments capable of and willing to enforce such measures, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government hosted a workshop for experts - both government officials and industry experts - to share there policies and measures on CO2 emission reduction from the newly built and existing buildings.

During the workshop, followed by the keynote address on the carbon reduction measures in buildings and cities of the world and Japan, presentations on Tokyo Cap-and-Trade Program and UK CRC (Carbon Reduction Commitment) - both cap and trade program targeting the commercial sectors such as office buildings - took place in Session 1. In Session 2, presentations on the energy saving measures on buildings from the cities around the world, and the enhancing value of the green real estate took place. During the panel discussion in Session 3, each of the speakers where engaged in a technical discussion on the future course of actions and good practice for regions and urban cities to combat climate change. In addition to this, from the hall audience, various questions where addressed to the panelists, which also highlighted their sincere attention and serious consideration in achieving a low carbon society.
