Environment Information Corner

For the promotion of environmental conservation activities, all entities, including local communities, NPOs, businesses, schools, and governments are required to make their own efforts and expand the growing wave of relevant actions. In order to promote environmental conservation activities by the residents of Tokyo, the Environment Information Corner offers opportunities for cooperation among various entities, provides environmental information, and provides practical support for such activities.

★ Uchida family

Mr. Uchida owns homestead woodland (3,400m2) in an urban area. The woodland, though, provides beautiful landscapes, representing precious green areas showing what typical Musashino looked like.

The Uchida family successfully maintained this homestead woodland for many years and strongly wished to conserve the rich greenery. In view of this, a plan for Special Green Conservation Area by Nerima Ward was approved, though the plan was subject to restrictions on construction activities. Designation of personally owned woodlands is rare nationwide, and the first case in Tokyo.

★ Tokyo bus association

In response to request from TMG, TOKYO BUS launched the Environment Performance Labeling on Sightseeing Bus (Environment label), one of activities for evaluating buses used for domestic trips from the viewpoint of emissions. The result of the evaluation is displayed on the body of buses and travel brochures so that travel applicants can select a travel course using environmentally friendly buses.

With these activities, it is expected that the atmospheric environment on roads will be improved in Tokyo and other prefectures, as well as in sightseeing areas, and the demand for bus trips instead of family car trips will increase.
