The Shade of the Cedar Trees Trail (Sugi no Kokage no Michi)

Take the JR Itsukaichi Line to Musashi-Itsukaichi Station, and catch a bus to the Kamiyozawa bus stop. Walk along the road until you come to the Kakidaira Enchi rest stop. Take the mountain trail that runs next to the restroom facilities. As you proceed down this trail, you will see the Yozawa Limestone Caves Mountain Villa, which is currently closed. Climb the stairs of the mountain trail to come to a ridge trail. From here you will pass a rock called Kuromo Iwa, and then climb up to the summit of Mt. Hinode. On a clear day, you will be able to see the skyscrapers of Tokyo's Shinjuku district from the summit of Mt. Hinode. Proceed from Mt. Hinode to Mt. Mitake and visit the Mitake Shrine. Pass the row of tea houses, and then after taking a break at the Mitake Visitor Center, walk down the tree-lined road that leads up to the front entrance of the shrine to come to the Takimoto cable car station. Walk down Yoshino Road while watching for vehicle traffic. From there, you can walk along the Tama River, to arrive at Mitake Station, served by the JR Ome Line.
